How Reflexology works and how it may help you:

Reflexology works on the principle that there are reflex points in the feet and hands that relate to all of the organs, glands and parts of the body. Making use of the unique Ingham technique taught by the International Institute of Reflexology I will work the reflexes in your feet and if needs be your hands to identify stresses and imbalances in your body. I view every client as an individual tailoring treatment to suit your needs.

Reflexology is not diagnostic and you will be advised to check out your symptoms with your GP if you have not already done so. Symptoms are signs and sensations that you do not normally experience. They represent changes and are the body’s warning signs that something may be wrong.

Visiting a Reflexologist:

You will remain clothed for your treatment only needing to remove your shoes and socks so that direct work can be done on the reflex areas of the feet.

Most people find the treatment very relaxing and often clients fall asleep during a session. There will be times during the treatment when I will find troubled areas on your feet and these will often cause discomfort until the area has been fully worked.

At the end of the session I will advise you on aspects of your health that have shown as problem areas and also advise you on possible foot care and general health ideas. Water intake during and after a session is vital as it helps to wash away toxins in the body.

Reflexology in the NHS

Since October 2005 I have had the great honour of being the only salaried reflexologist in the NHS in the United Kingdom. I am employed by Sheffield Care Trust and work as part of the Integrated Medicine Service treating patients that have exhausted conventional treatment regimes.

This is the only post of its kind in the country and the service is one of very few in the NHS. We work with patients from all areas of South Yorkshire with referrals for a very wide range of conditions with specialisms in the treatment of Myalgic Encephalopathy (ME) / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and chronic pain.

90% of my NHS patients have been referred to the service with multiple conditions and in most cases are on a long list of prescription medications having had little or no change in their condition for a number of years. Our job is to fully understand their condition(s) give them the time and treatment that they need and hopefully affect a change in their systems and symptoms for the better.

The benefits of treatment:

Below are some of the conditions that have been referred to me and why people seek treatment:

  • Relaxing the body to get rid of work related stress and migraine headaches
  • Easing crippling period pain and helping to improve all menstrual problems
  • Boosting energy to overcome chronic fatigue and ME
  • Alleviating some of those irritations in pregnancy such as water retention that’s stopping you wearing your favourite shoes
  • Easing the pressure of sinusitis/ear problems and dizziness
  • Getting rid of that nagging back pain and general body tension that’s stopping you sleeping, working and playing at your best.

If you’ve got a condition that I haven’t mentioned here why not give me a call and we can discuss things further.
